Tres Chic Dressing, Delightful!

Bonjour! As one of you has requested, I shall address the necessity of chic attire for work and for play.

As a young career girl, you must show that you, your mind, and ideas are fresh with how you dress. Yet, always keeping it mature to establish credibility. A great example of such dress is this structured blouse pictured. Not only is this blouse work appropriate but it’s fun and mature and absolutely a divine addition to your business wardrobe. The key points to this piece that make it chic are:

1. it’s bright!
2. it has small details! (Bow on the back, ribbon trim, etc.)
3. it’ unique!

This structured blouse could be worn with a knee length, high-waisted skirt to give that hideous business “power suit” a big old revamp! I believe we all know what suits I am describing. Here darling, I’ll help your memory out and just show you a picture of this grotesque tradition.

Filth I say! Well, that is an example of exactly the attire to wear to look perfectly un-chic. A simple hint to know that your outfit may be un-chic is if you could easily be a walking black and white photograph. So many people make the mistake of wearing mostly black, white, or brown to work. Although these colors are great and necessary to creating the most exquisite outfits; you should always have variety in your life! After all, that’s how you keep things fun and interesting, and fun and interesting is what being chic is all about!

Also, not only is it important to wear splendid looking clothing (once again that is always professional and never too revealing) to establish your reputation at work, but also you must always be in the right attire for drinks after work! What colleague would invite you out after work if you dress as if you were going to jury duty selection? (Of course that is a lesson for another day but, although being chic is serving your community, but it is also quite difficult to be chic cooped up in a crowded and tense courtroom all day. One must look important in a suit, but not wear anything to stand out and call for attention. Presumably, a replica of that horrendous outfit pictured above. But that of course would have to be borrowed from a friend!)

These rules for detailed, bright, and unique clothing still apply to recreational attire (with of course more stipulations that depend on the occasion.) The rules for professionalism are weakened a little because chic living requires the ability to move and dance, and sometimes this may require more playful clothing! Accessories such as jewelry and purses are also a great way to add color and fun to an outfit, especially if it’s looking a little bit jury duty-esque.

Ali, love, I hope this helps. I give you my best in all of your professional endeavors, and I hope that your chic wardrobe will also give you its best wear along the way.

Until next week, tres amour! Kiss Kiss!

What is Très Chic Living?

It is easy to understand what Très Chic Living by breaking up the meaning of each word.

Très- Le French word for “very.” Other synonyms may be “quite” or “rather”

Chic- (pronounced “sheek”) meaning smart, elegant, and stylish

Living- How one survives, thrives, and (after reading this blog) delights in life

Together this means wearing chic clothing, living amongst chic decorations, and even embarking upon chic activities. Not only are these things different than the ordinary, but also that every addition of something chic into your life makes it that much more enjoyable.

Some examples of living Chicly are:

o Buying at least one new and different item at the grocery store; just to keep things interesting.
o Waking up early just to enjoy coffee with cream outside. This would involve no rush and positively enjoying the song of the birds, never complaining about it.
o Taking a long bike ride on a retro beach-cruiser. Not for exercise, but sheer enjoyment of nature.

An example of someone who defines Très Chic Living:

Audrey Hepburn. Sure, some may lose interest and pass her off as cliché, because so many people reference her, but there is no other person who best defines Très Chic.

But why Audrey? I say why not!

Edith Head designed a classic dress, worn by Audrey Hepburn in the film Sabrina (1954), of which she remarked, "If it had been worn by somebody with no chic it would never have become a style." It is evident that Audrey and Chic are synonymous and one would not flourish without the other. Audrey was not only polite and poised but stylish and adventurous. All of these are qualities that this blog will try to bring out in you.

Maybe you do not wish to live Chicly, or simply, you think that you cannot. Well, I say, YOU CAN! It’s positively exquisite and delightful. Why wouldn’t you? Exactly. Follow me (in the directional and in the blogger way) to squeeze every drop of fun out of your life. But, you know, I can’t do this all by myself. I need you to try a suggestion or two that you read from this blog each week, and to keep reading to find new ones each week!

Also, although it may seem as though I know absolutely everything; I most definitely do not. I would love to delight in seeing YOUR interests and suggestions for topics in this blog. So, please comment on how you may have loved or liked a Chic suggestion for living. (You’ll find there is only love and like when it comes to being Chic. Someone Chic must never hate. Only delight in some things more than others.)

So go ahead, comment. What do you think? What would you like to know? I will be sure not to disappoint.

Ciao! See you next week, love.
